2012 Election Victory for the LGBT movement!

Last night, historic victories were achieved and voters overcame huge milestones in civil rights and equality. For the LGBT community, this year's election has been an occasion worth celebrating.
Barack Obama, the president who repealed Don't Ask Don't Tell, and the first sitting president ever to openly support same-sex marriage was decisively re-elected for a second term!
Congratulations Mr.President! I am personally relieved knowing that the president of my country will support and fight for my rights.
It's important to note that President Obama's reelection was carried largely by Women, Latino, African-American, and LGBT voters, sending the GOP a clear message that they cannot continue to ignore and degrade women and minorities.

Tammy Baldwin was elected from Wisconsin, making history as the FIRST openly LGBT Senator in the United States! She also became Wisconsin's first woman Senator. Alongside her, 12 other LGBT candidates were triumphant.

Tammy Baldwin's acceptance speech. Listen to the crowd at 3:34 when she mentions being Wisconsin's first woman senator. And  at 4:05 the crowd doesn't even let her finish saying she will be the first openly gay senator before they completely lose it. This is pretty much the coolest thing ever.

THREE new states, Maryland, Maine, and Washington, all legalized same-sex marriage, and Minnesota voters stopped an amendment banning same-sex marriage  from being passed.
It makes me so happy to think of the couples in these states who can now marry the ones they love! Congratulations to all of you <3 This is AMAZING!!!

Another major victory in this election (not exactly LGBT) is the defeat of what is affectionately known as Team Rape. Aka, all the Right wing uber-conservatives wanting to turn women into unwilling baby factories. But the women have fought back and spoken! And this is what their votes have to say -

Listening to the current politics, most of the things I stumble across make me afraid of what's in store for us. But yesterday has shown the United States to be moving in an overwhelmingly positive direction. For the first time, I can say that I feel truly optimistic about the future of this country and the future of equality.

Never stop fighting, Never back down.
